Aadukalam

Starring: Dhanush, Jayabalan, Kishore, Tapasee
Direction: Vetrimaaran
Music: GV Prakash Kumar
Production: Kathiresan

Sun Pictures has once again released another film entitled Aadukalam after the sci-fi movie “Enthiran”. Aadukalam which is under the direction of Vetrimaaran was done well for despite the simple storyline, the audience will be able to see how a variety of emotions were being shown in a well done manner. It is in this movie where we can find real substance despite the fact that it is another Madurai movie. Love, hate and real friendship was manifested in an impressive manner by the director.

The story of Aadukalam all begins in an area in Madurai where cock fighting is popular and is a serious matter amongst the villagers. K.P. Karuppu (Danush) works for Pettaikaran (Jayabalan) who is the boss when it comes to cock fighting, along with Karuppu is Dorai (Kishore) who is an assistant to Pettaikaran. In the movie, it shows that Karuppu and Dorai clearly flare up against each other.

Just nearby lives an Anglo Indian girl named Irene (Tapsee) whom Karuppu eyes and impresses her. In that same place where Irene is from is a cop who is also in cockfighting, Rathnaswamy (Naren) who will then plans a fight with Pettaikaran. Because of Rathnaswamy’s fraudulent plans, Pettaikaran loses the battle at first but Karuppu enters the picture to save his master. Karuppu succeeds winning against Rathnaswamy but things ironically turn different because Pettaikaran disowns Karuppu because of his jealousy. Karuppu, now very known in their neighborhood makes Pettaikaran furious and plans to destroy him which will be shown during the climax.

No one could have done it better than Jayabalan who plays the role of Pettaikaran. He clearly stands up to the role from his body language to the way he talks. Kishore also gives out a great job. But amongst the cast of Aadukalam, Tapsee is something to watch out for. She is the ideal character of what an Anglo Indian is—charming, simple and graceful.

Vetrimaaran has made sure the film to be filled with good technical effects and not just a good story. The movie’s great dialogues and editing make it even more inviting to watch. The catchy music of G.V. Prakash adds to the greatness of the film.

The downfall of the movie is its dragging second half which could have been improved but other than that the film is worth watching.
