Manmadhan Ambu

Starring: Kamal Haasan, Madhavan, Trisha, Sangeetha
Direction: K.S. Ravikumar
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Production: Udhayanidhi Stalin

Mandmadhan Ambu is definitely a much awaited movie as fans once again thrill themselves with the pairing of KS Ravikumar and Kamal Haasan. The joint collaboration of Madhavna, Trisha and Sangeetha to name a few is definitely something the audience would want to see. As the title suggests, expect the film to revolve around love, faith and honesty but handed out to the audience in a light way.

The films shows Ambujakshi (Trisha) who is about to be married to Madana Gopal (Madhavan) who works as an industrialist. But the Trisha’s profession becomes a barrier to her marriage with Maddy. They end up fighting and Trisha decides to go on a European cruise with Deepa (Sangeetha) who has two kids and is a divorcee. When Maddy finds out about this, he sends Mannar (Kamal) to spy on what Trisha is up to. Kamal accepts the job in order to pay for the medical expenses of his friend (Ramesh Aravind) who was cancer. Will Trisha and Maddy make up or break up? What happened to the cruise? The answer to these is what the movie is basically about.

Ravikumar has placed his style in narrating the story of the film, although it is good, the problem of the movie is its slow pace which can make the movie a little boring. The storyline is no doubt interesting but the way the movie unravels the story is just too slow. The script is definitely a good one but fails to catch the attention of the audience.

The acting of Kamal is no longer needed to be talked about as he has been doing it with much diligence for quite some time now. Sangeetha stands out from the rest of the cast because of she acts naturally. This is the first time for Trisha to really show she has something to offer with her acting skills. Madhavan seemed to enjoy portraying the role of a rich industrialist and was able to carry his character really well. The slow pace of the movie was definitely compensated by the cast’s great acting.

The music of the movie was under the composition of Devi Sri Prasad. The great cinematography was done by Manushya Nandan and the great costumes were by Gauthami.

Tees Maar Khan

Starring: Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Akshaye Khanna
Direction: Farah Khan
Music: Shirish Kunder
Production: Twinkle Khanna, Shirish Kunder, Ronnie Screwvala

Tees Maar Khan can be very much compared to a half-baked Robin Hood simply because the “Robin Hood” here steals from the rich but does not give it to the poor. It revolves around Tabreez Mirza Khan who is also called Tees Maar Khan who becomes a popular con artist who makes stealing seem simple but like every man he fancies a girl named Anya (Katrina Kaif) who longs to be an actress.

It all beings with Tees Maar Khan on a flight in CON-AIR airlines where a police commissioner explains about Ismail Koila and Master India. Basically, it is a laughing matter at the start but still the logic behind it is not lost.

During the start, Akshay Kumar seemed to back up with his acting but as the movie glides forth, you will definitely be laughing at your seat with his funny melodramatic acting. It is in this film where Akshay seemed to have given it all to stand up to the character he portrays. Wait for Katrina Kaif especially during the “Sheila ki jawaani” song where you will really laugh to your heart’s content. Definitely impressive and shocking at the same time is Akshaye Khanna who portrays the role of a popular Bollywood star who wants nothing more than winning an Oscar. The villain twins Rajiv and Ram and the rest of the cast have stood up to their roles as well.

The pace of the movie moves fast along with its songs. The magnificent sets of the film are done by the talented Sabu Cyril. The editing was done by Shirish Kunder and the arranged cinematography was done brilliantly by PS Vinod. The costumes are great all thanks to Aki Narula.

If you are much of movie-goer you will notice that Tees Maar Khan is quite different from the rest of the movies of Farah. Though the movie has loopholes in some aspects, still the movie is worth watching if you are looking for a feel good movie to watch.

Thenmerkku Paruvkatru

Starring: Saranya, Vasunthara, Sethu
Direction: Seenu Ramasamy
Music: Raghunandan
Production: Kathiresan

Thenmerkku Paruvkatru is movie under the direction of Seenu Ramasamy who has proven to the audience that rural-themed movies need not be gory and have seemingly endless dialogues. His direction has shown that even movies like this can manifest how much emotion can make a great impact on the film and have substance.

Ramasamy has taken ample time after his last movie “Koodal Nagar” to come up with a movie that is filled with emotion but is light to watch for the audience. Although Tamil cinema has witnessed countless films based on mother and son, Themerkku Paruvkatru is still worth the watch.

Portrayed by Sarnya as a devoted mother and Vijay Sethupathy as the loving son, the team has definitely left an impressive mark. Aside from them is also Vasundhara who plays a not so glamorous this time.

Veerayi (Saranya) is a careworn widow who lives a struggling life along with her son Murugan (Vijay Sethupathy) in their home in the rural area of Theni. Murugan is a jolly young man who looks after sheep and is being cared for by his dear mother. One day, a group of masked men tries to attack their village and steal goats. Murugan along with his other friends catches one of them and is surprised to find out it is a girl named Pechi (Vasundhara) who is from the other village and steals goats as a means of livelihood.

Things take a turn when Murugan falls for Pechi but finds out how frightful Pechi’s family is. Being protective of Pechi, Pechi’s family fears that Murugan might run off to the police. Pechi also realizes that she is also slowly falling for Murugan but will the two fight for what they feel? And what happens to them is what Thenmerkku Paruvkatru is about.

The acting prowess of Vijay Sethupathy is remarkable. From the start of the movie, he has already poured out so much to his character. As for Vasundhara, her acting falls on the average category. Amongst all the casts, Saranya is definitely worth the mention. She has done very well in every part of the movie.

The music of N.R. Rahunandan has definitely set the mood of the movie. Thenmerkku Paruvkattru is a movie that gives out a light feeling despite the drama behind the storyline. Ramasamy definitely gets three cheers for doing away with the typical movies.

Siruthai

Starring: Karthi, Tamannah, Santhanam
Direction: Siva
Music: Vidyasagar
Production: KE Gnanavel Raja

Sirutha would be good movie for you if you are the type to just watch and not search for substance in the movie. Sad to say, Sirutha is yet another commercial movie waiting to be praised by the masses.

Karthi started his acting career by carrying on the role of far-out films such as Paruthuiveeran and Aayirathil Oruvan. Being the younger brother of actor Suriya, Karthi finds ways to show people that he is not just a shadow of his big brother when it comes to doing mass masala movies.

Another venture that Karthi has gotten into is Siruthai which has the goal of showing audiences nothing more than entertainment served right off the screens. If there is one thing new about Karthi here, it is playing a dual role of being a cop and a heartless young man.

Siruthai is basically the recreation of a Telugu box office hit “Vikramarkudu” under the direction of Siva. With the Help of the great acting skills of Karthi, Siva has made apt changes to the script making sure the movie strides with more ease and be more entertaining. Siruthai will give it most of it to you from romance to comedy and action.

The movie revolves around a man named Rocket Raja (Karthi) who earns a living by being a thief. Everything seems to be well for Rocket Raja along with his buddy Kaatupoochi (Santhanam) and he even falls for a charming girl played by Tamannah. But things turn his life upside down when a little girl starts calling him dad. Rocket Raja finds out about the little girl’s past and finds out that she is the daughter of Rathanavel Pandian (Karthi) who is a hard working cop and is feared by bad men. Unfortunately, Pandian along with his daughter is being chased by bad men until they find Pandian’s whereabouts and kills him.

Rocket Raja steps in and finishes what Pandian has worked so hard for and even takes care of Pandian’s daughter as if she were his. With all these changes happening in Rocket Raja’s life, Siruthai takes the audiences to a movie filled with action, comedy, romance and friendship.

With the way that Karthi has carried himself in the film, he shows how much he has put to internalizing his character. He was able to portray two different roles with ease but makes sure his charm is never lost in whatever character he plays. The chemistry between Karthi and Tamannah is clearly shown on screen.

Siruthai is under the production of Studio Green and is worth watching if you are looking for a movie that is entertaining.

No One Killed Jessica

Starring: Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji
Direction: Raj Kumar Gupta
Music: Amit Trivedi
Production: Ronnie Screwvala

The movie ‘No One Killed Jessica’ begins with a woman telling a story of female journalist. From the headlines shown across the screen, the next scene shows a party at Delhi where everyone indulges themselves over toxic stuff and in that party is a beautiful woman named Jessica who dances her heart away.

Suddenly, darkness fills the screen and a mobile phone rings and with the flash of light, a girl is shown who is asleep but still caters to the call where she hears that something bad happened to Jessica. The girl is Sabrina Lall who is the sister of Jessica who rushes her way to the hospital to meet her sister’s friend, Vikram Jaisingh.

Basically, Jessica story is accidentally shot by the son of a politician all because of a glass of drink but nothing happens to the case because the shooter’s father demands to bury it. From there, the movie gracefully shows what happened over 10 years from the killing of Jessica to giving justice to her death. The movie shows the things that Sabrina (Vidya Balan), Jessica’s sister, had to go through along with Meera (Rani Mukherjee) the journalist to find who did the crime and to put justice to what he did.

Vidya Balan did so well of being the sister of Jessica who was once a model that became a bartender. It was Vidya who became the backbone of Jessica for when Jessica was still alive, all she did was care for her sister and be there for her most especially when she fought for justice of Jessica’s death. The emotions that Vidya showed in every scene were spectacular. As for Rani Mukherjee, being the flexible actress that she is, she was able to carry on her role very well with utmost ease.

Director Rajkumar Gupta was able to carry the story very well making sure that movie is close to what can happen in real life. If it were not for his great directing skills, the movie would have come out like a documentary. Although the story line is very heavy to deal with, it became easy to watch because of the great script.

To add up to the mood of the film is the music of Amit Trivedi but there are instances when the music is way too loud that it is quite hard to understand what the casts were saying.

‘No One Killed Jessica’ gives audiences a glimpse of the life in detective journalism and the struggle to fight for justice. The great thing about the film is how it shows people that if fought the right way, justice will be served.
