From the title itself, it already says so much about the movie. Love stories these days come in different forms but in the same cliché approach. But the film under the direction of Punit Malhotra has definitely given the film a twist.
The film begins with a narration by the lead protagonist named Jai (Imran Khan) explaining as to why he hates love stories. But making the film real interesting was the plot with the fact that Jai is an assistant director of the one of the renowned romantic film directors in India who is Veer (Sameer Soni). Jai doesn’t just have love stories in movies; he hates them even in real life. As to why he is putting himself in the ordeal of being in a movie set full of love and romance, it is because he dreams of becoming a director someday. What makes it even more hilarious is how people in his work are caught up in love fantasies brought about by Veer’s movies.
Among all these “love lovers” is the promising and beautiful Simran (Sonam Kapoor) who is of course a big fan of the films of Veer. Jai comes along popping the dream bubble of Simran about love and fantasy which she is enjoying with Sameer Dattani. The question now is can Jai resist the loveliness and dreamy quips of Simran?
The whole film is actually gives out a feel-good breeze and makes it interesting with a number of funny reels every now and then which is good because the drama is cut off and the love story is placed in the same light only in a different point of view. To make it more amusing is the character that is well portrayed by Jai’s mother in the film who is full of sarcasm.
Imran’s ‘boy-next-door’ look is something that has captivated audience but little aspects of him makes him not look so fit for such romantic roles but he deserves a tap on the back for portraying a very convincing Casanova with humorous lines. Sonam’s modern look really worked for her and her wistful character is something that she is good at doing. The chemistry is there. Which is where the essence of love stories rely on. The rest of the characters definitely added spark to the film. Aside from Jai’s mother Anju Mahendru and her sarcastic and extremely funny quips is Sameer Soni with his vivacious and eccentric role as the director.
Generally, the whole film deserves two thumbs up. Dharma Production has once again contributed another outstanding film in the world of Bollywood. The whole film, the cast and the crew have definitely shown the audience that the film is well-thought of and it will not make us say “I hate love stories”.
