For those who have been keeping a close eye in Tamil cinema, for sure you are aware that there was once a time when Tamil cinema was under the control of movie themed into political satires. But no matter how widespread it is, the masses were still won with romance and commercialized films. But even so, time went by and we eventually come to a point where people always want something new once in a while even if it means bringing back concepts that were loved before and one movie under this category is Irandu Mugam. The film revolves around the theme of politics in Tamil Nadu.

Basically, the movie is about a young man who dreams of being a Minister someday. He eventually gets his dream but unfortunately he is corrupt. It may sound odd but the responsibility of correcting his ways falls on the hands of his very own secretary. The role of the Minister is played by Karan and his decent and truthful secretary is played by Sathyaraj.

There really was a high expectation from Sathyaraj when people found out that he is included in the cast. His past movies like Amaithaipadai for example was also in the theme of politics and was watched by plenty but the things turned different in Irandu Mugam. This could be because the movie unveils scenese without any certainty and the swiftness of the movie is faltered. Sathyaraj was also not show in most parts of the movie making it seem like his role was not used of properly in the movie.

Parthasarathy (Karan) happens to be a son of a cook and finished school with a degree in Political Science. His ambition is to be a Minister someday. One day he finds out that the Chief Minister is going to their village for a visit and decides to not let the oppurtonity slip away and with his mimicry skills he gets acquainted with the man. He astonishes the Chief Minister of becoming a local leader of the part but because of this he causes Thamizh Sakthi (Nasser) to be angry at him because he plans on promoting his younger brother as the local leader of the party as well.

But things happen in the movie that lead to Thamizh Sakthi helping out Parthasarathy to becoming MLA with a condition that he should work by his side including his shady transactions. Parthasarathy eventually becomes Minister and because they are corrupt they get plenty of money. There also is a shade of romance in the film because Pavithra (Suhani) who is a daughter of an opposition leader falls in love with Parthasarathy. When Sarveswaran (Sathyaraj) causes a stir for he aims on eradicating corruption. He makes a scheme and gradually turns Parthasarathy into a good man. The two do their job in bringing out only the good for the people.

Karan and Sathyaraj clearly tried their best but because there wasn’t much confidence in the script still something was missin. The music of Bharadwaj is sad to say a downer in the movie. Abdul Kalam does the camerawork and Ruben J’s lines did add a plus to the movie.
