Kavalan

Starring: Vijay, Asin, Rajkiran, Vadivelu
Direction: Siddique
Music: Vidyasagar
Production: C. Ramesh Babu

Vijay is indeed the cream of the crop of the movie as it is “very him”. The thing is, Kavalan is no different from the other movies that Vijay has done except for his screen presence, great acting and a climax with an interesting twist.

If it were not for Vijay and Vadivelu, the movie would have been very dull because of its timeworn style of narration and a script that definitely would have been better. Because the movie is somewhat a remake of the Malayalam sensation “Bodyguard”, even Vijay was not able to work well on it.

Kavalan is the perfect example of how a classic movie can be destroyed when filmmakers turn it into a commercial film. If there is one good thing about it, it is Vijay taking on a role that does not require him to be a demigod.

Kavalan Tamil Movie

The story is mainly about Bhoominathan (Vijay) who is happy-go-lucky youn man and is asked by his father (Nizhalgal Ravi) to become a bodyguard in the village of the home of Muthuramalingam (Rajkiran) who became a good Samaritan. Meera (Asin), the daughter of Muthuramalingam has death threats and because of this Bhoominathan is asked to accompany her to her school for safety. Meera soon realizes that Bhoominathan is a disturbance to her and plays a prank on him despite Maadhu (Mithra Kurian), Meera’s friend, warns her. But despite the not so good start, Meera later realizes that she is falling for Bhoominathan which makes Muthuramalingam not so happy about this. But even though all these chaos is happening, an emotional climax is what greets the audience.

As mentioned earlier, Vijay is the one person who is the main reason why the movie was able to work out well. Thanks to Vijay’s charm and his great acting skills, Kavalan came out real good. Asin did well but there wasn’t much chemistry between her and Vijay.

The songs are done well thanks to Vidyasagar. Ekambaram is behind the cinematography and the editing of Gowri Shankar adds to the greatness of the film. There are still questionable parts in the script that may leave the audience wondering where the logic behind it is.
