At this time and age, movies that are especially dedicated for the children’s enjoyment come out as rare already. It is loud and clear that Rama Narayanan only wishes to bring back to kids the kind of movies they are to watch and enjoy.
The film Kutty Pissasu is perfect for the young and even young at heart because of the fact that it is able to energize and stimulate imagination as well as bringing back “make believe”. The whole reel has a lot of elements put together to make up the whole imaginative concept like superstition and technology working hand-in-hand.
The story mainly revolves on the young daughter of Ramki and Sangeetha who live normal and happy lives as a family. It takes on a spin when they suddenly notice how their daughter begins to act strangely. They later on find out that it is caused by a roving spirit of a lady that died because of too much superstition of a group of men and is seeking revenge for the injustice of her death. Then comes in a car that transforms into a robot to Help save the young girl from the havoc that the lady wants to bring in. The ‘transformer’ happens to be inside it the spirit of the lady’s younger brother who died of the same cause. In addition to the transformer is a boon that happens to be centuries old and an unpredictable yet generous goddess.
For starters, the film could have been made more adaptive to a child’s level of thinking because the concept of reincarnation and human sacrifice could be a little bit way over board but even so, the whole movie gives positive vibes to its young audience. Young kids will be more interested in watching it because the main character is lead by a young girl portrayed by Krithika which is something they can relate to in the first place. She may not be much into acting because of her tender age but definitely gets a lot of appreciation in her dance moves. Ganja Karuppu who is widely known to be in comical roles did a really great job of shifting from comedy to a serious role. A pat in the back goes the same to the rest of the cast of the film.
Basically, the plot is the typical good versus bad and at some point we would be able to say that the whole film is unpredictable. But the point of the matter here is that the film is dedicated for the young ones because it is here where they are able to instil in them good values and see that at all times, the good ones will always prevail. Definitely a cheerful film made especially for the youngsters!
In terms of the technical aspect particularly in the special effects, there is much effort placed in it resulting to really great outcome. This leaves a promising trail for Tamil cinema because the film was able to successfully do it with no help from other industries not even Hollywood for that matter. For a director that knows his craft well, Rama Narayanan was definitely able to pull off one genre of the cinema world that is slowly fading away. Children will definitely be able to identify with the movie as well which is a very good things because in the first place, the whole film was made for them.
