Lafangey Parindey
Starring: Neil Nitin Mukesh, Deepika Padukone
Direction: Pradeep Sarkar
Music: R Anandh
Production: Aditya Chopra
An emblematic Bollywood film is what Lafengey Parindey is about as it is shot at Mumbai’s backstreets. The Lafanga is Nandu who strangely lives on the streets of Mumbai and is a fighter who works for Usman Bhai. Another peculiar thing about him is why he fights blindfolded and his opponents don’t when he is at the ring. The film doesn’t get more stranger when each time his fights show his opponents bashing him and making him fall and when rises back up, with just a punch to his opponent and he wins. This is why he is named One-shot Nandu.
The Parinda is Deepika. This young lady earns her money by working at a high-class mall and figure skating is her passion. She dreams of winning in a dance show on TV called India’s Next Big Talent where the winner gets 50 lakh rupees. When everything seems smooth sailing she suddenly loses her eye because of an accident. You need to watch Lafangey Parindey to find out if she can still reach her dream or get her vision back.
It all begins with interwoven scenes that introduce Neil and Deepika. From there, everything else becomes conventional. The subject matter of the film is not really that appealing for this is another romantic movie. It has the usual toast of what makes a love story—there are sacrifices, friends and a villain, mostly the typical things.
The film has generally placed the promising Pradeep Sarkar to a way that is unknown. There are still parts of the movie that lacks answers and the film can be so predictable that it gets unfortunately boring in the long run. The cast of the film could have helped if the movie had better actors. Though Neil Nitin Mukesh tried his best to give out that character of roughness and suave, it still does not make him a tapori and he just seems urbane to be in the character of one-shot Nandu.
Deepika was surely a plus to the film and her skating sequence was really great. She may not be as convincing but still the audience will definitely be drawn to her. She is able to draw out the emotion of sympathy from the audience as she plays the role of Pinky. She definitely gave justice to her role as a blind girl. The choreography of her skating is good that people may come to think that she really is a figure skater.
The songs have come in line with the movie which is good. As mentioned, the choreography of the skating is excellent and even the dance numbers are done well too. The rest of the technical team clearly showed they gave their best effort to making the film a good one.
