No One Killed Jessica

Starring: Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji
Direction: Raj Kumar Gupta
Music: Amit Trivedi
Production: Ronnie Screwvala

The movie ‘No One Killed Jessica’ begins with a woman telling a story of female journalist. From the headlines shown across the screen, the next scene shows a party at Delhi where everyone indulges themselves over toxic stuff and in that party is a beautiful woman named Jessica who dances her heart away.

Suddenly, darkness fills the screen and a mobile phone rings and with the flash of light, a girl is shown who is asleep but still caters to the call where she hears that something bad happened to Jessica. The girl is Sabrina Lall who is the sister of Jessica who rushes her way to the hospital to meet her sister’s friend, Vikram Jaisingh.

Basically, Jessica story is accidentally shot by the son of a politician all because of a glass of drink but nothing happens to the case because the shooter’s father demands to bury it. From there, the movie gracefully shows what happened over 10 years from the killing of Jessica to giving justice to her death. The movie shows the things that Sabrina (Vidya Balan), Jessica’s sister, had to go through along with Meera (Rani Mukherjee) the journalist to find who did the crime and to put justice to what he did.

Vidya Balan did so well of being the sister of Jessica who was once a model that became a bartender. It was Vidya who became the backbone of Jessica for when Jessica was still alive, all she did was care for her sister and be there for her most especially when she fought for justice of Jessica’s death. The emotions that Vidya showed in every scene were spectacular. As for Rani Mukherjee, being the flexible actress that she is, she was able to carry on her role very well with utmost ease.

Director Rajkumar Gupta was able to carry the story very well making sure that movie is close to what can happen in real life. If it were not for his great directing skills, the movie would have come out like a documentary. Although the story line is very heavy to deal with, it became easy to watch because of the great script.

To add up to the mood of the film is the music of Amit Trivedi but there are instances when the music is way too loud that it is quite hard to understand what the casts were saying.

‘No One Killed Jessica’ gives audiences a glimpse of the life in detective journalism and the struggle to fight for justice. The great thing about the film is how it shows people that if fought the right way, justice will be served.
