For movies themed with such serious issues that happen in our daily lives, it is essential that the director gets a good grip of the medium and the actors needed should make sure that they immense themselves into the role they’re playing.
Thankfully, Payanam has a few of these elements needed for a movie with such a serious theme. It basically is about a flight hijack that is conveyed to the audience in a fascinating way that if you watch it you will be able to relate to the flight passengers. Whether it’s Nagarjuna or Prakashraj playing the lead role, there is no question as to how they have internalized their role that they have transformed to the person’s character called for by their role.
Radha Mohan, Nagarjuna and Prakashraj are a perfect trio for they have come up with a film that is not only entertaining to watching but gripping at the same time. Although the film maker behind this film has worked on making movies about emotional and family dramas, a lot of risk was taken to emerge into a different track which turned out well.
The movie Payanam is a mix of bliss, companionship, suspense and lots more. Having two of the most experienced actors, Nagarjuna and Prakashraj in the lead, perhaps everything running in the thoughts of Radha Maohan have been projected on the screen. It is impressive how Radha Mohan was able to send out the message of this movie but still making sure that its audiences stick to their seats throughout the entire film.
Payanam is basically about a terrorist group that hijacks a flight of 75 passengers from Chennai. These passengers are a mix of different people from different walks of life. The passengers and the flight crew reach the Tirupati airport where important people such as the Home Secretary Vishwanath played by Prakash Raj go to the temple town to make negotiations with the terrorists. While all these are happening, a rescue operation is being done and this is headed by the NSG commander Ravi (Nagarjuna). The breath-taking risky efforts are done in order to make sure that the passengers make it through alive.
Prakash Raj was definitely awe-inspiring in his acting. He was very comfortable with his role but made sure that he brought out the appropriate emotion called for by the scene. The NSG Commander Nagarjuna was the perfect actor for his role. The rest of the cast have all done their role aptly.
Not to be forgotten is cinematographer K.V. Guhan and director Kathir who are the brains behind this witty film. The right match of music sets the mood which was what exactly happened all thanks to Praveen Mani. Because of this movie, Prakash Raj has proven that Tamil Cinema still continues to grow despite the many commercial masalas coming out.
