Penisngam is one film that brings about ‘girl power’ as the protagonist is lead by a woman and how she bravely fights against injustice in society. The very talented Kalaignar makes the script very flawless with lines that will sink deep in you. Under the direction of Bali Srirangam and the production of J Nandini Arts, the concept of the film is focused on women and how they can empower.
Pensingam introduces Surya (Uday Kiran) who happens to be a forest officer has a high regards for his co-worker Megala (Meera Jasmine) who dreams of being a police officer and get support from Surya by means of his helping her learn IPS. Nagendran (Richard) gets in the scene as a Tamil speaker and is acknowledged for his ideas of being a reformist. When he conducts a talk in a college, Prabhavathy (Sudharsana Sen) a college student gets attracted to him and eventually marries her.
On the later part of the marriage, Prabhavathy finds out that Nagendran is only after her money. With the Help of Surya, he tries his best to correct things but to no avail, Prabhavathy gets killed leaving all the blame to Surya. Nagendran is then in pursuit of Surya with the help of other bad characters. Megala who is now an IPS officer is also in her own pursuit of finding out the real wrongdoer to keep Surya out of the picture and come clean. As to how Megala is able to do this is what Pensingam is about.
There are a number of surprising twists in the script which is appealing but it is even more surprising because it is not as modern as one would expect but even so, the mood is unswerving in the whole movie. As for the screen role of Udhay Kiran, he was able to be do his part very well and Radha Ravi on the other hand has been just too familiar with being in that same role which is becoming overrated. As for Richard, his undeveloped acting skills is very much noted especially with his role in the film as a villain. The role of Meera Jasmine was a character that she indeed internalized for she delivered well even if her role did not much in regards with the title.
In terms of Pensingam’s technical side, nothing much is to be discussed. The music of Deva is just average too. The script is undoubtedly perfect but if the film was more modernized it would have been even better.
