Thambikottai
Starring: Narain, Poonam Bajwa
Direction: R Ammu Ramesh
Music: D Imman
Production: R K Suresh
Thambikottai is another typical Tamil cinema movie. All the ingredients are there from singing to dancing, love scenes and fighting over hundreds of villains. But if there is one thing that makes this film different from the rest is Narein who happens to have this kind of movie a first. In line with how this movie is very usual already, Ammu Ramesh, who directed this film has made this long-time favorite quite a lengthy film making it tiring to watch once in a while.
The film is being produced by R.K. Suresh and is star-studded with casts such as Poonam Bhajwa, Prabhu, Sangeetha and lots more. Thambikottai is actually a mix of action, romance, comedy and a little bit of drama.
The film is centered on Alagiri played by Narein who is being raised by Shanmugapriya played by Meena who happens to be his sister and a college lecturer. They pretty much need to care for each other as they no longer have parents. For Alagiri and his friends, life is a bliss but things take a turn when he goes to the village of Thambikottai on an NSS camp. Shanmugapriya advices his brother to not go to the village but despite this, Alagiri still goes forth and finds out that the village is being ruled by Amirthalingam (played by Nan Kadavul Rajendran) who is feared by all in their place. Later on, the films shows a flashback that Alagiri actually has something to do with Thambikottai and because of this, he makes up his mind to end the wrong-doings of Amirthalingam. But in the midst of this battle, Alagiri falls for Kanaka (Poonam Bhajwa) who happens to be the daughter of the enemy.
At the start of it all, it was not easy to digest Narein acting as the big hero but little by little, Narein has proved us wrong as he slowly shows how well he is able to portray his role. As for Poonam Bhajwa, she shows typically what a leading lady does and Meena took the opportunity to make this her comeback movie. The rest of the actors did their performances well.
Because this is a masala flick, D Imman made sure that the music is proper for the movie genre. Generally speaking, Thambikottai may not be a perfect movie but it is still fun to watch.
